Weekend Update

Well. The weekend is over, and as usual, L got lots of sleep. I have not idea why that man has to get up before the sun, clunk around the house and wake me up, and then sit in the chair of doom with the TV on and fall asleep for the rest of the day.
So, my neighbor brought around some of the drakes he'd been saying he'd bring (he calls them rapists) and L had to get busy and kill and prepare them. At least he did something on Saturday, but that totally wore him out for Sunday. On Sunday, I got some stakes out and put the chicken wire around the small raised bed. I'm hoping that the pea cages will deter them from getting INTO the bed (whoever THEM is). I got to cook 2 of the rapists for dinner. At least I was sort of prepared for them. As free-range and older ducks, I gave them at least 3 hours of oven time. I think they should be boiled first now. I mean, they were OK with the 3+ hours, but I wanted the meat falling off the bone. I don't get that many opportunities to cook duck. The ones that nest on the swale are off limits to Dannl Boone.
K wants me to cook a couple of the geese, but the problem is the same, and as much destruction they do to the flower beds in spring, I like having them around the rest of the year. Really, what would life be like if I didn't have SOMETHING to curse out every so often. They're the only thing that stops or slows the traffic down on the road (which they think they own). The bastards found the oat seed, as I mentioned before, but now they are going there every day to see if they can find any more. I need some of it to come up to hide whatever I get to put out next, but there's not going to be much left. I know I'm cursing the rain, but it's also what I need to get the stuff started, and it will peter out soon. I guess I'll have to fence that off too. Maybe the electric fence will be enough, and that won't take much time to put up.

On a serious note, I think more people will come to realize the more they can produce for themselves, the better off they are going to be once petroleum has priced itself out of existence. That may be 20-40 years in the future, but it'll probably take me that long to get it right!
